During the holidays, my Grandma Cheryl still makes her special chex mix. We used to fight over a bag of it and even asked for the recipe to make it ourselves. But it’s just not as good as when Grandma makes it!
Ingredients
- 1 Box of Cheerios
- 1 Box of Crispix
- 1 Box of stick pretzels
- 1 bag of Bugles
- 1 can of unsalted peanuts
- 1 tsp of onion salt
- 1 tsp of celery salt
- 1 tsp of garlic salt
- 3 sticks of butter or margarine (traditionally, Parkay is used for added flavor)
- ΒΌ cup of Worcestershire sauce
Equipment
Roasting pan with a lid
Two sheet pans
Wooden spoon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a roasting pan, combine Cheerios, Crispix, stick pretzels, Bugles, and peanuts.
- In a separate bowl, melt the butter and add onion salt, celery salt, garlic salt, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Pour the melted butter mixture over the cereal mixture into the roasting pan.
- Place the lid on the roasting pan and shake it gently to ensure all the cereal pieces are coated evenly with the butter mixture.
- Place the roasting pan in the preheated oven for 1 hour with the lid on. Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon every 15-20 minutes.
- After the first hour, remove the lid and continue to cook for an additional hour, stirring every 15-20 minutes.
- Once the Chex mix is done cooking, spread it out evenly on the sheet pans.
- Allow it to dry and cool for about an hour before storing.
- Store the Chex mix in an airtight container or a plastic gallon bag.
