German Pizza

Recipe by
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes
Prep: 20 minutes | Cook: 45-55 minutes

This recipe carries sentimental significance, as it was a beloved family favorite that my Grandma Brenda used to make. After her passing in 2017, we were fortunate enough to rediscover the recipe. We continue to prepare German Pizza during the holidays in her honor.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp shortening
  • 2 medium-sized potatoes, sliced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • ¾ lb. ground beef, broken up
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic salt
  • ½ tsp onion salt
  • A dash of Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup grated cheese

Equipment

Frying pan with a lid

Instructions

  1. On low heat, melt the shortening in a frying pan.
  2. Slice the potatoes and chop the onion.
  3. Layer the sliced potatoes, ground beef, and chopped onion in the frying pan with the melted shortening.
  4. Cook on low heat, covered, for 20-30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
  5. Afterward, beat the eggs and sprinkle the grated cheese on top of the potato mixture.
  6. Continue to cook for a few more minutes to set the eggs and melt the cheese.
